Senator Baltej Dhillon Joins the Independent Senators Group

OTTAWA, April 10, 2025– British Columbia Senator Baltej Dhillon has joined the Independent Senators Group (ISG). Senator Dhillon is a career police officer, a community leader, and long-time advocate for inclusive policies in Canada. When he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in 1990, he advocated for his right to practice his faith while serving Canada and became the first officer to wear a turban in uniform. During his time in the RCMP, he led many intelligence operations and played key roles in major investigations such as the Robert Pickton case. In 2013, he spearheaded a committee to support youth prevention strategies within the Sikh Community.
Since retiring from the force in 2019, Senator Dhillon has worked as Program Manager for B.C.’s Crime Guns Intelligence and Investigations Group and has been sitting on various committees. He has received numerous distinctions for his illustrious career and community work, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Times of Canada, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond and Golden Jubilee Medals.

Senator Baltej Dhillon was nominated to the Senate on February 7, 2025. His addition to the ISG brings the total membership to 44.
