Senator Karen Sorensen Joins Independent Senators Group

OTTAWA, October 7, 2021 – Senator Karen Sorensen (AB) announced today that she will be joining the Independent Senators Group (ISG).

“I am honoured to have been appointed to the Canadian Senate representing the Province of Alberta. Within the Senate, I value the quality of non-partisanship and the ongoing modernization of the Upper Chamber. I look forward to contributing to the important work of the Senate as a member of the Independent Senators Group.” - Senator Karen Sorensen on joining the ISG.

“Senator Sorensen is a proven leader who has demonstrated a steadfast devotion to her community. She has a deep knowledge of both private and public sector work and has used those skills to support the people of Banff, Alberta for three terms as Mayor. We are fortunate to have her join our group and look forward to the unique perspective she will bring to the role of an independent senator.” - Senator Yuen Pau Woo, Facilitator of the ISG.

Senator Sorensen was nominated to the Senate on July 29, 2021, through the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments. Her addition to the Independent Senators Group brings the total membership to 43.
