Senator Pierre Dalphond Joins the Independent Senators Group

OTTAWA, September 5, 2025 – Senator Pierre Dalphond (Quebec) announced today that he will be joining the Independent Senators Group (ISG).
A distinguished legal expert, Senator Dalphond was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in 1995 and later elevated to the Quebec Court of Appeal in 2002. He is a strong advocate for the protection of Charter rights, official languages and the representation of minority groups and has long called for the modernisation of the Senate into a more independent institution.
In recognition of his professional accomplishments, Senator Dalphond was named a graduate emeritus of the University of Montreal, his alma mater. He is also the recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Governor General’s Academic Medal, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the King’s Coronation Medal.

Senator Pierre Dalphond was nominated to the Senate on June 6, 2018. His addition to the Independent Senators Group brings the total membership to 46.
