Senator Joan Kingston Joins Independent Senators Group


OTTAWA, December 14, 2023 – Senator Joan Kingston  (New Brunswick) announced today that she will be joining the Independent Senators Group (ISG). Senator Kingston is a retired nurse and former member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, serving the Province of New Brunswick as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Labour. Most recently, Senator Kingston served as a consultant at the University of New Brunswick's (UNB) Faculty of Nursing. With a decade-long tenure at UNB, she held roles such as nurse manager and co-manager of the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre. She also has extensive experience in government affairs serving as a principal secretary and senior advisor, as well as a health advocate, earning recognition and induction as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Nursing in 2021.

Senator Joan Kingston was nominated to the Senate on October 31 2023 through the Independent Advisory Board for Senate Appointments. Her addition to the Independent Senators Group brings the total membership to 40.
